We’ll be carrying out the mandatory monthly maintenance services and checks on the drones in our fleet today, as specified in our Operational Safety Case.

Our Operational Safety Case is a formal legal document that we submitted to the CAA and which was approved by the CAA. It demonstrates how we operate as a company and operate drones safely and in accordance with the CAA’s regulations. The maintenance procedures we have in place are an essential part of our OSC and exist to ensure our drones are in peak operational condition and are safe to operate. If our drones aren’t fit to fly they are grounded until any problems found are rectified, there are no exceptions to that rule. Although we provide a service to our clients and as a business that is why we exist, we here at Eye in Sky Media take operational safety as our prime concern. Drones being misused or abused have the potential to cause serious injuries or even death, property damage and generally cause mayhem so we take our responsibilities extremely seriously.
Our maintenance process is split into several parts:

  • Check air frames for wear and damage and then clean them.
  • Check all electrical/ electronic connections, inspecting solder points and connection contact surfaces.
  • Check circuit boards/ electronic components for any signs of damage.
  • Check motors for damage or obstructions.
  • Thorough check of propellers for stress fractures, wear & damage.
  • Inspect camera & gimbal payloads and mounts.
  • Finally ensure all screws, bolts and fasteners are secure and fastened properly

  • Check for firmware updates to the cameras, flight controllers, batteries and TX controllers.
  • Also check for updates to the software used on the iPad and to the iPad itself.

  • Check batteries visually for any damage or bulging.
  • Carry out a deep discharge and full recharge cycle of all the batteries.

  • Ensure the maintenance and battery logs are correct and up to date.
  • If a drone is grounded, ensure everyone knows. Place drone in the grounded storage area.

Once all that’s done we carry out test flights with the compass calibration procedures being carried out for the first flight on each drone. In addition to the monthly maintenance cycle we carry out pre and post flight checks and also weekly maintenance services for every drone in our fleet. If there is a problem with one of our drones, we’d much rather find out when it’s on the ground than when it’s in the air!
